FUTURE CAREER TRENDS: SAVING THE WORLD WITH BIOTECHNOLOGY by Ts Pratheep Sandrasaigaran

Biotechnology is a biology-based multi-facet technology that harnesses cellular and biomolecular processes to generate technologies and products that enhance our lives and the health of our planet. For instance, biotechnology has emerged as a critical player in the fight against the COVID-19 worldwide pandemic, aiding to decode the virus's DNA, understanding how our bodies' defense mechanisms against infectious organisms and the most significant contribution is the life-saving vaccines for COVID-19.

With the ongoing global issues such as food security, COVID-19, global warming etc., the School of Biotechnology of Manipal International University (MIU) has recently organized a webinar on “save the world with biotechnology- future career trends” to brief the young minds and enlighten them with the career trends in biotechnology. As a problem-solving field, biotechnology provides solutions and understanding world problems will enable students to set their education direction with the changing biotechnology careers.

The webinar was held on 25th January 2022. The distinguished Dr Joshua Yap, Associate Professor from the University of Nottingham Malaysia (UNM), delivered the talk, and 41 participants attended the webinar, including from MIU and INTI International University. The participants were all satisfied with the outcome of the webinar and eager to join other talks organized by the School of Biotechnology of MIU in future. All participants were awarded a certificate of attendance.
