ndia-born, Manipal graduated Rajeev Suri has been appointed CEO of the $18-billion Nokia - the second Indian to be made head of a major global technology company in less than three months. Satya Nadella was elevated as CEO of Microsoft in February.
MIT was rather modest in its celebration, with a statement claiming that Suri’s elevation as Nokia chief, coming in the wake Nadella’s appointment as Microsoft CEO, indicated “that Manipal Institute of Technology is as good an engineering institute as any in the world”.
Vinod V Thomas, Director of the institute, said: “Two of the top Fortune 500 companies being led by MIT alumni is indeed a noteworthy achievement. These are not merely fortuitous events but the result of the multicultural ambience and professional outlook provided by MIT Manipal for the holistic development of its students. MIT congratulates Suri on his achievement and wishes him success in his new endeavour.”
“We congratulate Rajeev Suri on his appointment as Nokia CEO. He is an inspiration for all our students.” Says Dr. Rao, Vice Chancellor - Manipal International University
