On the third week of September 2021, Department of Mass Communication, Manipal International University held their annual Mass Communication Week event. The difference between this year’s Mass Communication Week compared to the past few years is that this year, everything is done online. All seminars and workshops are done through the well-known platform, Zoom.
The group of students who were taking the Event Planning and Management subject during this semester were the ones who planned and organized this weeklong event alongside Miss Elillarasi Kupusamy as the Chief Advisor for the event.
A series of 5 webinars and 3 School workshops were available for public to attend for free. The main target demographic was emerging digital entrepreneurs as well as traditional small business owners who wanted to move to online platforms. The week starts with an opening ceremony where the Dean of the School of Management and Business, Dr. Chok Nyen Vui, the Head of Department for Mass Communication, Tuan Haji Mohd Shah Abdullah, and also the Project Leader, Kavitta Ravindran, each gave a speech. After the opening ceremony, we immediately hopped onto the first webinar.
We had Graphic Work and Tuning Your PC with Mr Sethu, Upgrade Your Business Online with Mr Gopalakrshnan Kolandai, a three-day straight webinar on Selling in Shopee and Lazada with Mr Marappan, Instagram for Success: Strategies to Increase Your Insta Followers with Miss Puvanesvari and also Online Teaching and Learning Efficiency with ChM. Dr. Hussein.
For the workshops, it was mainly for school students to sharpen their creative skills using online resources for their school projects. The three workshops we had were Cool Free Online Design Resources for Creative School Projects with Miss Chitrah, How to Make an Awesome Digital Scrapbook with Miss Hui Hui and Tips to Create an Online Presentation for School Using Powerpoint with Miss Mokana.
Throughout Mass Communication Week 2021, though hectic was very exciting. The webinars and workshops got positive feedback, and the workshops we did were a blast because of the incredible support and enthusiasm we received, despite the fact that they were all conducted online. We even had a fun and games session with them on the second day, which was on the 14th of September 2021. During this session, we played different games like scavenger hunt, which we did have prizes for the top three on the scoreboard, and also watched videos where the students of Manipal International University had made. The feedback from the school student was great and they had even requested to have another fun and games session if we could.
We had the closing ceremony on the 17th of September 2021, right after the last workshop we had for the school students. After each webinar and workshop, we had a photo session. Below are some of the pictures we took during the photo sessions:
Mass Communication Week 2021 was definitely a blast and a success if you ask me. All the participants who joined us found the webinars very beneficial and are looking forward to the next Mass Communication Week that will be held.
