Overview

The Biotechnology industry is one of the fastest growing industries in the world today, and is expected to contribute 5% of Malaysia’s GDP by the year 2020.

This is a multidisciplinary field that harnesses biological processes to create and improve products for the betterment of society. It is also expected to play a key role in solving current world problems such as food security, disease, environmental degradation, and climate change.

The Bachelor of Science (Biotechnology) (Hons) program provides an overview of the biotechnology industry and common techniques used in R&D. Graduates are trained to fuse their technical expertise with a keen understanding of this fast-paced industry.

Eligibility Criteria

ENTRY LEVEL ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Pass SPM or its equivalent
STPM Pass with minimum of 2 Grade C
STAM Pass with minimum Jayyid with full pass in 2 subjects
UEC Pass with minimum Grade B in 5 subjects
A-LEVEL Pass with minimum Grade C in 2 subjects
MATRICULATION
/ FOUNDATION
Pass Matriculation/Foundation in Science (recognized by the Malaysian
Government) with CGPA 2.00
AUSTRALIAN YEAR
12
  • Pass Australian Year (refer to MOHE’s approval letter) with average 55%; or
  • Pass South Australian Matriculation (SAM) with minimum aggregate Tertiary
    Entrance Rank (TER) 55 including Mathematics; or
  • Pass Australian Matriculation (AUSMAT) with average 55% including
    Mathematics
  • CANADIAN YEAR
    12
    Pass Canadian Pre-University (CPU) or Ontario Secondary Diploma (Canadian
    Grade 12) with average 55% including Mathematics
    INTERNATIONAL
    BACCALAUREATE
    Pass International Baccalaureate with minimum score 24/45
    OTHERS Any other equivalent qualifications recognized by the
    Malaysian Government

    Laboratories

    Dedicated Laboratories at MIU give an opportunity to the students to hone their skills through experiences apart from the classroom.

    Biotechnology/chemistry

     

    MIU complies with the provisions of safety and health as prescribed under the Occupational Safety and Health Act, 1994 for the laboratory facilities dedicated to Biotechnology program. Three laboratories - Molecular Biology, Microbiology and Proteomics - are well equipped to carry out basic Biotechnology experiments
