Chong Yi Fei - An Alumnus Story of MIU
Date: October 04, 2021 |Published by: MIU | Category: Blogs
Chong Yei Fei, 24, is an alumnus of Manipal International University who was in the class of 2020 for Bachelor of Accountings. Chong started working in the Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) as a risk investment analyst earlier this year in the month of April and she was fortunate enough to be nominated and win the quarterly performance award for the months of April to June 2021.
This quarterly performance award is given to either a team or a person and to be nominated to win this award, they will have to reach the daily Key Performance Indicator (KPI) for the entire quarter. Chong’s team manager is very strict about the work that is being done. No mistakes are allowed and nothing should go wrong. This is because, in banking, a typo can cause millions and billions of dollars and this is due to the fact that the numbers that are being typed out are not just useless numbers but they are prices. Chong’s team handles the investment prices, so the impact of a mistake is very heavy. Hence why her manager is strict when it comes to making mistakes and also why her team KPI is always top notch.
One of the main challenges she faced was working from home. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic now, everyone is required to work from home to avoid from getting infected with the deadly virus. Since Chong started working in RBC, she only met her teammates through the small rectangular screen that everyone has nowadays. Chong mentioned how it was hard to obtain training through phone calls instead of learning hands on. “If there was an issue in the office, we could respond quicker than sending a text message. Because when you send a text message, you have to wait till the person comes online to reply you and we don’t know how long it will take,” said Chong during the interview.
Chong and her team did not expect to win this quarterly performance because usually no one knows who is nominated other than the person who nominates them. They only knew that they have been nominated after the results have been announced and word has gone around. RBC created this award because they emphasize on their employee’s welfare and benefits.
As a part of Manipal International University, it is truly an honour to see one of our alumni doing well in today’s busy world. Chong definitely made Manipal International University very proud and we wish her only the best for her future. Who knows, maybe she may win the next quarterly award which is coming up soon!
