Over 450 students and staff enthusiastically squared off against each other during Atle’tico MIU 2014, a unique sporting event held at Manipal International University, Nilai, August 8 to 15.

Hundreds of supporters cheered as the teams competed in diverse games and events, held at the massive Nilai sports complex and other areas of the sprawling campus.

The events included:

• Futsal (five-a-side football)
• Basketball
• Bowling
• Badminton
• Tug-of-war
• Ping Pong
• Pool
• Chess
• Rat race and even
• Arm wrestling

At the end of the event, the staff team, called the MIU Mustangs, walked away with the Overall Champion Group award, while the Best Sportsman and Best Sportswoman trophies were awarded to Lingesh Sundram (Foundation in Engineering) and Shevetha Nayanika Nayar (Foundation in Business) respectively.

MIU’s Vice Chancellor, Dr PLNG Rao, was the guest of honour at the grand prize distribution ceremony on the last day of the event.

“It is great to see that for the first time, so many lecturers and staff are competing against students in a wide variety of games. We will definitely continue this in the near future,” declared Dr. Karthigayan Muthukaruppan, the advisor and Director of CFLS.
