Manipal Global Round Table on Nxt Gen Leadership

Senior corporate leaders from across India and UAE gathered to attend the two-day Manipal Global Round Table on Nxt Gen Leadership at the Sheraton Dubai Mall of Emirates, Dubai on 28th and 29th of November.
Over 28 leaders from 24 Indian corporations, including ICICI bank, QuEST Global, Avantha group, HP flew in from India for the conference, which was also attended by 14 leaders from 10 Middle East Companies.

In his opening remarks, Mr Mohandas Pai, Chairman of the board, Manipal Global Education and chair of the round table, talks about what Nxt Gen Organisations are expected to do. ‘Innovation cycles have shrunk’, ‘How do you build an organization that is responsive to the consumer needs?’, says Mr. Mohandas Pai.
Dr. Wing Lam, Vice Chancellor of GlobalNxt University opens the first panel on Leading Laterally, saying that young leaders want diversity and authenticity. ‘They embrace, and want to operate in, a diverse, global culture’. This was followed by an engaging and thought provoking panel discussion moderated by Ms. Anuranjita Kumar, Managing Director & Chief Human Resource Officer, South Asia, Citibank.
The five-member panel comprised Mr. Raghavendra K, Vice President & Head - HRD, Infosys BPO, Mr. Sameer Bendre, Chief People Officer, Persistent System, Mr. Pradipta Banerjee, Vice President - HR, India & South East Asia, CGI, Mr. Chandrasekhar Ranganathan, Chief Values Officer & EVP - L&D & CSR, HDFC Life Insurance, Mr. Thampy Kurian, General Manager & Head - HR, Federal Bank Mr T K Srirang, Senior General Manager & Head HR, ICICI Bank Ltd gave a very insightful presentation on the unique talent development philosophy at ICICI bank. He said that Nxt Gen Leaders is not an age a bracket, but a mind-set. ‘Our work with ManipalGlobal is to develop front line leadership’, says T K Srirang.
Mr. Vikram Bector, Chief Talent Officer, Reliance Industries took us through NxtGen expectations through the eyes of his daughter, ‘What Nxt Gen wants, is instant responses’. A fun and deeply insightful session kindled many conversation afterwards.
Day One closed with a deeply insightful keynote speech on ‘Building Winning Teams’ by Mr. Gary Kirsten, former South African cricketer, captain of the Australian Cricket team and former coach of the Indian cricket team. The world cup winning coach of the Indian cricket team had the audience spellbound and moved by his leadership style and ethos. ‘Don’t be afraid to seek feedback, infiltrate and lead, know your team’s culture’.
Day Two began early with breakfast on the terrace, with a view of the stunning Burj al Arab.
We started with a session on ‘Design Impacts Business’ with Ms. Sonia Manchanda, co founder of Idiom, a leading design consulting firm and pioneer of Dream In, a global collaboration platform. This engaging activity based session had HR leaders brainstorming and creating prototypes. Spelling out the imperative for creative processes within firms, Sonia spoke about how companies can continue to stay relevant.
Next up was the panel discussion on ‘Global mobile work force’ introduced by Dr. Nilanjan Chattopadhayay.
The panel discussion was moderated by Mr. Sreekanth K Arimanithaya, Vice President - HR, Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC). The industry leaders on the panel were Mr. Raja Shanmugam, Co-Founder, President and Chief People Officer, Happiest Minds Technologies, Mr. Ravi Subramanian, Executive Director - Shriram Group, Shriram City Union Finance, Mr. Niketh Sundar , Sr. Vice President - HR, QuEST Global, Mr. Frank Farrell, VP Learning and Development – ADCB and Mr. Sanjay Chandwani - Regional Director Logistics, Richemont.
The group was driven to Manipal University, Dubai, and taken for a tour across the beautiful campus, the media labs, the sporting complexes and more.
The first presentation at MU Dubai campus was on Learning in Global Organisations by Mr. Prashant Verma, Joint General Manager - HRMG, ICICI Bank brought in important lessons from ICICI’s experiences in learning and development.
The concluding presentation for the 2 day session given by Ms. Samidha Mohanty Programme Director - Global Leadership, Learning Centre, Aditya Birla Group, showcased the work that Aditya Birla Group has done in collaboration with GlobalNxt University, in the field of Leadership Development.
Mr. Ramabhadran A. P.,Sr. Vice President – Education, Services and Corporate Executive Education brought to close an enriching 2 days conference that opened up new ideas, thoughts and possibilities.
